The Goal:
I aimed to create a video that brought out the humour and personaility of the creator through the voiceover and scriptwriting - something the audience could connect to whilst being entertained. Everything was meticulously built using the Adobe suite to realise this goal - graphics, video editing, thumbnail, audio/sfx design, and other visual assets. This gave me full control over every detail.
The Challenge:
The video's story had to be easy/not confusing to follow, whilst also retaining audience attention. For videos of this length to see success on YouTube, they must have over 30% AVD (Average View Duration), or they won't get recommended by the platform's algorithm. One of the challenging parts was figuring out which editing/scriptwriting techniques should be used to achieve the desired analytics.
The Result
We went through various iterations of pacing and design until we landed on the final project. The result was a fast-paced, music-driven gaming video with strong visual direction and highlighing on the specific "characters" in the video as the main focus. I used techniques including frequent humour, pattern interrupts in the form of SFX, memes etc, open-loop psychology and audio-visual continuity to keep the audience engaged . The video identity included VFX and graphics made in Photoshop and After Effects, memes and music styles depending on the mood of the scene, while keeping the editing style simple enough to not feel too "overproduced". Within the first months, the channel saw over 200K impressions, 18K views, and 200 new subscribers from this video. The video itself retained a strong 41.6% AVD across it's 11:30 minute duration with over 500 likes.
